Guzman, McKenzie combine for 38 points Published in the Town News Luis Guzman and Terrell McKenzie combined to score 38 points as Paramus Catholic led all the way in defeating Barringer 67-43 in a NNJIL boys' basketball game played in Newark on Thursday. Leading 13-6 after eight minutes, the Paladins went of a 21-2 tear in the second quarter to open up a 34-8 advantage by intermission as they upped their overall record to 8-3.

Guzman and McKenzie hit the hoop for 19 points apiece while Lawrence Williams chipped in with nine. Jackie Vanore tickled the twine with a game-high 20 points as Paramus Catholic romped to a 62-29 triumph over Barringer in Paramus. The Lady Paladins surged to a 16-4 lead after four minutes in rolling to their eighth win in a dozen outings. Janae Gray chipped in with nine points while Marianne McGovern added eight, including a pair of treys. Mark Shakeen glided over the 55-meter high hurdles to finish fourth in the event at the Ridgewood Winter Games II held on the campus of Rockland Community College in Suffern, New York. Shakeen was timed in 8.2 seconds. Paramus Catholic and Morris Knolls battled to a 1-1 standoff in a non-league ice hockey match. Steve Andolino netted the tying goal in the middle period off an assist from Brian Rutz. Goalie Harold Austin came up with 25 saves.
